Abstract

The prevalence of stunting in children under five is still a serious challenge in public health development in Indonesia. This condition is not only related to nutrition, but also closely related to environmental aspects, such as the availability of clean water and proper sanitation. This study aims to analyze the effect of access to clean water and sanitation facilities on the prevalence of stunting among children under five at the provincial level in Indonesia. The data used is secondary data from the Indonesian Demographic and Health Survey (IDHS) in 2023 with a cross-sectional approach. The analytical method used was multiple linear regression to determine the simultaneous relationship between the two environmental variables on the level of stunting. The results showed that access to proper sanitation had a significant negative relationship with stunting prevalence, while access to clean water did not show a statistically significant effect. Nonetheless, in theory, both still play an important role in creating a healthy environment for child development. Therefore, improving infrastructure, sanitation and water quality assurance are crucial strategies in reducing the national stunting rate.
