Regional Income Inequality: An Analysis of Poverty Factors, Human Development Index, and Open Unemployment Rates in Indonesia

This study aims to analyze the influence of poverty, Human Development Index (HDI), and Open Unemployment Rate (TPT) on income inequality between provinces in Indonesia. Using a quantitative method with a multiple linear regression approach, secondary data was obtained from the official publications of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) for several representative provinces in Indonesia's five major islands. The results show that simultaneously, the three independent variables have a significant influence on income inequality. Partially, poverty and HDI have a significant negative effect on inequality, while TPT has a significant positive effect. This shows that improving the quality of human development and reducing poverty can reduce income inequality, while unemployment exacerbates it. This research fills the literature gap by integrating these three variables simultaneously in the analysis of regional inequality in Indonesia, as well as providing a foundation for more inclusive and data-driven development policies.
