THE INFLUENCE OF ENVIRONMENTAL AND ECONOMIC EXTERNALITIES ON THE HAPPINESS INDEX IN INDONESIA IN 2023

This study aims to analyze the influence of environmental and economic externalities on the happiness index at the provincial level in Indonesia. Using a quantitative approach with multiple linear regression methods, the study utilizes secondary data from the Central Bureau of Statistics. The analysis results show that environmental quality has a positive and significant effect on public happiness, while poverty has a negative but statistically insignificant effect. The control variable, population density, shows a positive yet also statistically insignificant effect. This research highlights the importance of environmental quality in enhancing people’s subjective well-being and recommends the integration of sustainable environmental policies into national development planning.
